Head, Cross Portfolio Business and Strategy, Roche

Tamara Oei has been in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech industry for over 20 years, starting out on Wall Street as a Biotech Analyst. Seeking a greater understanding of the drug development process, Tamara then joined Clinical Operations at several international pharmaceutical companies including Johnson & Johnson and Akzo Nobel. A move to the San Francisco Bay Area, with Genentech, Inc. brought the opportunity to create the US Medical Affairs Clinical Operations department. The experience of leading clinical trial programs and seeing the impact for commercial stage products, led to the desire to understand the potential for the industry and the strategies of competitors, and resulted in a career change to Competitive Intelligence. Competitive Intelligence marked a return to strategic analysis and a more comprehensive and objective point of view, incorporating the external opporttunties. Currently, Tamara leads the Commercial Strategy and Business team at Roche, based in Basel, Switzerland. This team focuses on identifying future long-term and strategic opportunities for Roche. The team works closely with Partnering and Development to drive portfolio decisions. This role brings together the experience as an Analyst on Wall Street, with the understanding of the development lifecycle and the opportunities in the external environment for the industry.

Alexis Puhan

Dr. Alexis Puhan (MD) is the founder of skillbuild inc., based in the Zurich area, specialized in coaching, storylining and facilitating since 2002. Fields of expertise include facilitating, presentation design and training as well as coaching of teams and individuals. Alexis Puhan is coaching experience is multi facetted and he is an experienced MBTI ® -Trainer as well. Alexis holds the INSEAD diploma in organizational psychology.

Among others, Alexis Puhan has acquired his expertise in skills as a consultant at McKinsey & Company from 1998-2002. In the last 19 years, skillbuild has grown a very diversified client base on an international level. Alexis has worked with numerous individuals and teams as a coach as well as a trainer in leadership, organizational development and storylining.

Martyn Smith

Audit Director Europe & Latin America , Group Audit & Risk Advisory, Roche

Martyn Smith has a 25+ year career with a focus on Intelligence, analysis and Insights across multiple industries and sectors. An inspiring, pragmatic and highly collaborative leader, Martyn has a unique understanding of how Competitive Intlligence can create meaningful and lasting impact within organisations. Martyn studied Business Administration & Finance at Coventry University following which he attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served in the British Army for six years during which in addition to multiple overseas postings he also attended Cambridge University, and Bristol University. After leaving the Army Martyn worked in Intelligence and Analytical roles in Formula 1 Racing and FMGC (LEGO) before starting in the Pharmaceutical Industry in 2004 working for Novo Nordisk and LEO Pharma at their corporate headquarters in strategic functions Martyn joined Roche in 2011, initially supporting the Biosimilar Task Force before assuming leadership roles in the Industry Analytics and CI Department. In 2016, he received the Roche GPS Excellence Award for his insight work that had a significant impact on Roche’s Biosimilar understanding and strategy. From 2016- 2021, Martyn was the Head, Global Competitive Intelligence. In this role, he developed and led the Global CI function of 30 managers based in Switzerland, the US and China with full portfolio and lifecycle responsibility. The Global CI team also has permanent seats on a number of Senior Decision Making Committees and regularly feeds into strategic projects and questions from Executive management.

Dr. Álvaro Urbano-Ispizua

Director for the Department of Haematology and Oncology at the Hospital Clinical Barcelona

Dr. Álvaro Urbano-Ispizua is the current Director for the Department of Haematology and Oncology at the Hospital Clinical Barcelona and a Professor of Medicine at University of Barcelona. Alongside his work as a medical director and consultant haematologist, Dr. Urbano-Ispizua also leads research into stem cell transplant and CAR-T cell therapies in haematology at Hospital Clinical Barcelona, which has been recognised as one of the pioneering institutes for cell therapies in Europe. Dr. Urbano-Ispizua has extensive experience with both commercial and academic CAR-T therapies, and has authored over 180 articles in peer reviewed journals, with over 2400 citations. Beyond the clinic, Dr. Urbano-Ispizua has been the General Secretary of the European Bone Marrow Transplant Group (EBMT) between 1998-2004 and the President of the Joint Accreditation Committee of EBMT and ISHAGE until October 2006. He has also been a private consultant of the European Commission, and has formed part of the Official panel of experts of the European Medicine Agency.

Jennifer is an international Leadership Consultant and Executive Coach, working with senior leaders around the world, creating powerful opportunities for personal and organizational growth. She helps leaders better understand themselves, thereby leading their people and their organizations to greater performance. Jennifer’s work has included Board, executive and leadership team facilitation; team building and strategy work; building leadership capability; cultural transformation consulting; conference compering and executive coaching.

Dr. Joseph Mikhael

Professor at the Applied Cancer Research and Drug Discovery Division at the Translational Genomics Research Institute

Dr Mikhael is a Professor at the Applied Cancer Research and Drug Discovery Division at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), an affiliate of City of Hope National Medical Center located in Phoenix, Arizona; he is also Director of Myeloma Research at Honour Health and Chief Medical Officer at the International Myeloma Foundation, the largest myeloma-specific charity in the world, and serves as a Councilor on the Executive of the American Society of Hematology (ASH).
As a leading multiple myeloma expert, Professor Michael is currently the principal investigator of several clinical trials focussing on the incorporation of immunotherapies into the current treatment algorithm. He personally contributed towards the development of Isatuximab (a CD38 monoclononal antibody, FDA-approved in May 2020 and now sold under the brand name Sarclisa by Sanofi) from its infancy. His other clinical research interests also include pharmaco-economics, communication skills and media relations, with over 100 peer reviewed articles in these fields.

Chris Lew

Franchise Lead Solid Tumor, Roche

Chris Lew is a Franchise Lead for Roche/Genentech Oncology Competitive Intelligence in Lung, Skin, Agnostic, GU, and GI portfolio. Since 2013, Chris has helped countless Roche teams (from Pre-IND to mature brands) make strategic decisions in competitive marketplaces, support their paths to successful commercialization, and find innovative assets for partnering/licensing. He has played a crucial role in evolving and shaping the Roche CI team from a handful of team members to an industry-leading world-class function. Chris was also responsible for setting up the first Roche China Affiliate CI department, hiring talent, and establishing functional excellence, just as China was going into its "golden age" of pharmaceutical development. Prior to working at Roche/Genentech, Chris worked for 4 years at consulting at firms in the Bay Area and New York helping pharmaceutical, medical device, and diagnostic companies work on commercialization strategies for products. Chris has a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology and Finance from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. In his free time, he enjoys being a dog dad for his puppy (Sebastian), eating yummy food at new restaurants (when we're not in COVID times), traveling, and getting physical activity in (e.g. swimming, running, hiking, etc.).

Dr. Rohin Iyer

Global Program Manager for Cell & Gene Therapy Market Support at Cytiva

Rohin Iyer, Global Program Manager for Cell & Gene Therapy Market Support at Cytiva (formerly GE Healthcare Life Sciences), one of the leading providers of technologies and services that advance and accelerate the development and manufacture of innovative therapeutics. After achieving his Doctorate in Cardiac Tissue Engineering at the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering (IBBME) of the University of Toronto, Dr Iyer joined Tissue Regeneration Therapeutics and then moved onto GE Healthcare to specialise in process development for cell and gene therapy. Over his career in academia and industry, Dr Iyer has contributed to more than 24 scholarly articles and book chapters, as well as a number of white papers, application notes, and patents. As current Global Program Manager for Market Support at Cytiva, his activities involve novel application development and range extension on numerous products, product care and support, R&D leadership, application note development, driving the company's external scientific publication, conference and documentation strategy, validation guide development, knowledge database development, competitive benchmarking and cross-functional oversight of programs at several Cytiva divisions.

Luca D’Urbino is a freelance illustrator famous for collaborating with numerous brands and editors from around the globe, including The New York Times and Italian Newspaper, Il Sole 24 Ore. From his studio in Milano, Italy, he creates images that convey complex concepts with a synthetic and direct style, leading him to obtain awards including Society of Illustrators New York and Communication Arts Award Excellence. Since 2016, Luca has been a regular illustrator for The Economist, successfully gaining front page illustration ownership on a great deal of occasions. Prior to becoming a freelancer, Luca worked as a loyal soldier at Bonsai Ninja Studio , crafting a variety of content with themes from people to the environment. Luca holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Politecnico di Milano in Industrial Design and two Masters, one in Editorial Illustration from MiMaster Oppi, and the other in Motion Design from c.f.p Bauer.

Louise Crowley

Executive Voice & Communication Skills Coach

Louise Crowley is a voice and communication coach and the founder of BeSpoke Coaching. She has over fifteen years’ experience working with executives up to board level and regularly gives talks on presence and personal impact. Her work on leadership development programmes for many pharma companies - including Novartis, Roche and Takeda – has taken her all over the world. As well as business executives, she has also coached broadcast journalists for the BBC and Bloomberg. Louise is a qualified voice coach with an MA in Voice Studies and an IPA diploma in phonetics. Prior to becoming a coach, she was a television continuity announcer and voice artist. This experience has given her a unique understanding of how to use the voice to engage, influence and inspire. She believes that how we communicate is what we communicate and that by learning to leverage our voice and presence, we can have a more consistently positive impact on others. Louise is originally from New Zealand but has been based in London since 1990. She is passionate about theatre and film, a keen exponent of yoga and has been known to run the occasional marathon. She also volunteers some of her spare time to help women from disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for job interviews.

Chrissie Wellington OBE

Four-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion

Chrissie Wellington OBE is a former British professional triathlete and four-time Ironman Triathlon World Champion. She holds, or held, all three world and championship records relating to ironman triathlon races. She is the first British athlete to win the Ironman Triathlon World Championship, and was undefeated in all thirteen of her races over the ironman distance. Chrissie was awarded a first-class degree by the University of Birmingham (BsC Geography) and a Distinction from the University of Manchester (MA Econ Development Studies). Prior to becoming a professional athlete in 2007, she worked for the British Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) as a policy adviser on international development and also managed water and sanitation projects in Nepal. Passionate about physical activity and promoting health and wellbeing, Chrissie now works as the Global Head of Health and Wellbeing for Parkrun. She published her Sunday Times Best Selling autobiography, A Life Without Limits, in 2012, and her second book, To the Finish Line: A World Champion Triathlete's Guide to Your Perfect Race, in 2017. Chrissie was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2010 and Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2016. She was also named the 2009 Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year and has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from the University of Birmingham and the University of Bristol.

Kay Abesamis

Director of Global Marketing, Pfizer

Kay Abesamis currently works for Pfizer and has recently started a new role as Director of Global Marketing in prostate cancer for Talzenna in the Oncology business unit. She joined Pfizer in April 2014 as part of the Biosimilars Global Marketing and Commercial Development team, where she was responsible for developing commercialization strategies for Pfizer biosimilars. Most recently, she was the Global Marketing Lead for Bosulif, a treatment for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and the anchor brand the Pfizer Hematology portfolio. She started her career in the pharmaceutical industry with Organon in the Netherlands, and successively worked for Schering Plough and Merck & Co. in the US prior to joining Pfizer. She has built a solid track record of achievement across a broad range of commercial roles, including global marketing, US in-line marketing, commercial development, alliance management, and business development, and has experience in Women’s Health, CNS, Inflammation and Hematology-Oncology indications. Kay has an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Rochester, and a Master of Science degree in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from the University of the Philippines.
